I will be joining the IDF in the end of the year, and filling out my allyiah applications right now... Just wanted to know a few things,

1. Anybody else joining end of year?

2. The actual IDF draft dates

3. How much money does a chayal boded actually get

Hi Shlomo,

Welcome back. The specific draft dates are not available until a few weeks before each draft. The amount of money earned by a chayal boded changes as well, but you can find the approximate amounts by searching online. A chayal boded earns approximately twice the salary of other soldiers but the bonus for being a combat soldier is not doubled. Chayalim bodedim also receive money for rent up to about 1050 NIS/month depending on the cost of the apartment rented.

It usually really is around the beginning of March (for the first one of the year) for foreigners. Even though you speak Hebrew they'll probably send you to the same 3-week course all the Mahalniks go to. Keep in mind that they probably won't let you join until you've been in the country for a year, so if you're set on serving as soon as you get to Israel, you should start trying to find ways around that restriction. I don't know if it applies to Garin Olim.

army pay

Postby tavorlior » Mon Mar 12, 2007 9:28 pm

i know how much it is and honestly you will not need it because you will hardly have enought time to spend it. the army gives you enough to survive on. they do not leave you stranded. they have experience with this
