You'll need a place to stay for when you're off base, whether it's a room on a kibbutz or an apartment. That's where you'll leave those personal belongings you won't be taking to base with you.

One suitcase should do you well too, there is laundry on kibbutz. If you opt to stay on the kibbutz as a soldier - check to see what the arrangements and obligations are - you're probably going to be sharing a room or small apartment. Don't assume you'll have generous or suitable (protected from all the elements) storage.

Obviously an apartmenty is a more desireable option, but that means paying rent on a place you're only occupying x% of the time.

i thought the army gives u 950 NIS a month for rent and util. now i know that in CAD thats like $250/month, and a cheat appt. here (toronto) is $800/month... so will 950NIS really get me an appt.? or will it be in a ghetto

It's more like 1050NIS, and that's enough to get a nice place if you have a room-mate or two and spend enough time searching using the right resources. It will not get you beachside property in Herzelliyah-Pituach. But especially if you want to live in Jerusalem with a room-mate, it's plenty.

Travelling for nine weeks? That's one week of clothes

Postby zionist » Sat Dec 16, 2006 10:47 pm

When you pack clothes to travel, you pack for one week plus one set of clothes for a special evening. Than you wash the clothes at the end of the week. You don't need to take nine weeks of clothing. Just lots of socks.
