Hi there,

My name is Nicky. I am a 22 year old Jewish male from Scotland. I have lived here all my life and have only recently had my first trip to Israel. I went on Birthright a couple of months ago and it was surpassed my high expectations. I would love to go back very soon and have seriously been considering the IDF. I have been reading this site for a while now and have gone through pages of information. The information is fantastic and I have learned a lot. I have my own questions that I will likely ask soon, but I do want to say a big thank you to the people who contribute to this website, especially since they do not have to.

Cheers,

Nicky

Well hello. My name is Peter and iam 14 years old. I get 15 in January tho if that matters. I plan to join the IDF after high school (I want to finish all the school things before I go). Iam aiming for at least the Paratroopers, and the Paratroopers is also my "favorite" unit right now in IDF. But I get into the unit that I get, and I will probably be fine with what I join (as long as I get to join a combat infantry unit). I want to join the best unit Iam able to tho. I live in Stockholm, Sweden. There is a few reasons why I want to join the IDF. One is to defend the Jewish people, our land Israel (basically the Zionist thing). Other, smaller, reasons is that it makes me more grown up etc and that I would want to live in Israel and want to do all the stuff the other people needed to do. Another reason is that if I like it in the army, I might work there for a while (after I have finished college). But nothing of that except that I want and am going to serve in the IDF is sure right now, because there is still a couple of years left. I have started training for the IDF tho. Better sooner then later. I live in Sweden, as I said before, but my family is more from like Austria and Hungary if we would go back to before the Holocaust, after witch my grandfather moved to Sweden even tho he wanted to move to Palestine. Dont know why he did that, but yea. Well this was pretty long, so I hope you guys where not too bored from reading this. I did not know what to write specifically, so I just threw pretty much everything in haha.

Hello all!

My name is Blake Orth. I live in Texas, but was originally born in California. I'm 18 years old and have wanted to join the IDF for years, and my dream is finally coming true!!! My Hebrew isn't very good, but I'm working on it... My goal is to join the Paratroopers, which I am extremely motivated and determined to do, but I would be honored to serve in any battalion or position in the IDF. I am very serious about joining the IDF and fully realize that it's not just something that's "cool" to do, but a very serious commitment.

I sent in my form to Mahal earlier this year and my enlistment date is in spring 2013, but I am now considering making Aliyah first since from reading through this forum it seems that is better if Paratroopers is your goal. Either way, this forum is a extremely valuable information bank on the IDF; thank you very much to everyone who has posted so much information!

Thanks! Can't wait until I get to Israel!

Hi Blake.

I want to join the Paratroopers too. But if I get in, Iam going to join a few years after you. If/ When you get into the IDF, could you maybe give me general tips or something? Also, from where did you hear about it is better to make Aliyah first if you want to be a paratrooper?

Thanks,

Peter
