Hello,
My name is Sergei Vishovski. I am a non religious jew living in toronto Canada. I have lived in Austria before for 13 years and in Russia as well.
I am planning on serving in the IDF in the middle or beginning of 2010.
I have put college on a halt for now (Paralegal Program) because I think that if I have to do it, it has to be done now.
I have been browsing this website and forum for over a year now but I do have one or two questions. If some of the people could answer this I would be very happy.
Question 1: I am an only child my parents are divorced but my dream is to go for Combat Soldier. This is something I really want to do and really need to do for ideological purposes and for the good of Israel and myself. I understand that Israel will put me where they need to put me but I highly prefer a combat soldier placing. How strict do they check whether you are an only child or not. Is it absolutly necessary to get the letter signed by both parents? It can be in English with a legit Hebrew translation I suppose? Do they call your parents to double check or will the letter be enough?
Question2: To get the lone soldier status in the IDF for what I have seen grandparents are not considered immiediate family and I could get the status?
If anyone from toronto is planning on going begining to mid 2010 please let me know. I would love to organize something together.
I cant seem to find a free Ulpan in toronto, if anyone can suggest something please do so.
I thank everyone for running this amazing website and putting all the time and effort into it. This website has helped me a lot.
Thank You
