Knee problems

Postby sg23 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 11:46 am

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease. Often people ask "what the heck is that?" Basically, it causes inflammation and pain in the knee.

According to the physios, it resolved itself when a person stops growing. Unfortunately than can happen in the early 20s. It fluctuates in severity, sometimes its fine, sometimes it stops me doing exercise. I thought I was over it for much of this year, but it has flared up again so I guess I'm not.

Assuming I still have this problem in a year or two, how would this affect IDF service? What would this kind of problem do to my health profile?

Hi Desmond,

The vast majority of basic training revolves around running and other activities incorporating runing. Climbing over objects, jumping off objects, and so on.

There is no one here on this site who could give you a perfectly correct answer, as it is subjective. The IDF doctors make their determination based on your medical history as submitted by your family physician prior to coming to Israel.

I think you have to be realistic about whether this will be the way for you to serve Israel. Fortunately, there are others.
